Arnold Arboretum Engagement

They say rain is a sign of good luck on your wedding day. At your engagement session, it's a sign you're about to get some unbelievable photos.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2023

The end of this engagement session rivaled the rain scene from The Notebook

During my first month living in New York, I spent seven days in the actual state. Instead, I was shooting weddings, engagements, and other projects in New England for most of September. Which, unfortunately, often involved bearing the humid Boston heat without AC. I woke up the morning of this session to a gorgeous overcast sky, arguably the best conditions for an early afternoon engagement. I made my way to the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University– which, ironically, is nowhere near Harvard or Cambridge. The more you know.

I met these two by the visitor's center and we took a stroll through the Arboretum, often stopping to shoot at the many photo-worthy spots along the way. The Arboretum was filled with beautiful trees towering towards the sky, still green from the summer and yet to change into their autumnal colors. As we walked and talked, a few droplets here and there went unnoticed.

About an hour into our session, the sky opened and suddenly it was pouring rain. I quickly moved us under a tree for some cover and asked them if they would be willing to take a few shots in the rain together. To my surprise, they seemed completely unbothered by the rain and continued with the same excitement and joy from before the downpour. While our clothes got soaked and my cameras had to be put away shortly after, the shots we captured were truly magical and 100% worth it.
